I don't know if I'm the only person feeling this way, but I can't for the life of me understand why any person who supports this franchise would be happy right now. I'm actually pretty not-happy. Very not-happy.
This season was one of the saddest travesties I've ever had the misfortune to witness. It wasn't just bad football and bad luck, it was an institutional effort at instilling apathy. It's not that the team is just bad in every single facet, it's that they are completely hopeless. It's not that the guy who we just spent 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick is probably getting cut this offseason, it's that we have absolutely nothing resembling a professional quarterback. We have no offensive line. We have no defense. We have the historically worst special teams just one year removed.
It's not that they'll be bad next year, it's that there is exactly zero long term plan. This once-proud and successful franchise is blatantly floundering, and every year pulling the same C-/D+ just-barely-not-failing-out grade.
The only possible positive one could even take away from a year like this is finally having a first round pick again, and trying to get it as low as possible. Instead we decide to win an absolutely meaningless game (for us) which costs us probably 4-5 spots in the draft, and either way one of the division rivals is going in the playoffs anyway. All we did was screw up our draft and help Dallas of all teams make the playoffs.
So seriously: why are you actually happy right now? This team is a caustic mixture of incompetence, narcissism, apathy, and talentlessness. We're not a year away, or two, or three, or five, or ten. We're (at best) fifty years away, until the end of he who should not be named.
I just really don't get it.
