I saw Conan the Barbarian in the 2000s, so I expected 80s cheese--action, blood, one-liners, etc. I was surprised that its pace was so slow, its tone was so dark, the score was so memorable, and that certain aspects showed such attention to detail. I still can't call it a good film myself; the characters are too thin and the acting too bad for my taste (and these are pretty important for me), but I've heard others call it good, a classic even, and many critics agree, evidently. It was better than I expected, and I appreciate it enough to look forward to the possible sequel that's been discussed since 2012ish, but (TLDR:) my impression was mixed. What did you all think of Conan (1982)? How should the sequel salvage/continue the franchise?
