I made my first foray into online dating this weekend and would appreciate your thoughts on this exchange. All messages were an hour or two apart. Question after the quote.
Me [first message]: [I did an opening question based on an absurd concatenation of things mentioned in the favorites section of her profile. Omitted for her privacy.]
To continue, send me a Game of Thrones quote OR your most hated, cheesiest line from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Her: "WAGRRRRWWGAHHHHWWWRRGGAWWWWWWRR" - Chewbacca
Me: No, no, no, no. I ask for a hated or cheesy, line, and you give me the most awesome character in the franchise? (Though admittedly, his appearance in the prequels was contrived.)
I would have accepted something like "Hold me like you did by the lake on Naboo", or "Into exile I must go. Failed, I have."
Clearly you need to brush up on your pop culture references. I can help with that. What do you say we meet for coffee and compare notes on Pixar movies and Game of Thrones? :)
Her: How do you know what Chewie wasn't saying wasn't cheesy? Maybe it was a racial slur.
Will all of my opinions be "wrong" to you as well?
Her [immediate followup]: Was saying*
Me: I guess I couldn't imagine Chewie harboring such bigotry in that warm furry heart of his. Now, that R2 on the other hand, he was charming as a droid but was deeply troubled as an actor. http://ift.tt/1z2b3MG
I judge facts on their merits regardless of who said them. I judge silly opinions on how fun they are. Friday afternoon for coffee in [town we both live near].
Her: No thanks.
Me: Ok. May you find what you're after.
The main thing I'd like to know is whether you agree with my interpretation of her "wrong opinion" comment as a shit test, and whether you think my reaction was appropriate. If she was legitimately offended by my tongue and cheek dismissal, it may be because I'm a bit parsimonious with smileys, but it's just as well as we clearly don't share the same humor. But I was working on the assumption that she was probing my personality.
I will of course gratefully accept any other feedback you can offer.
