I read the novelization of the film, and it explicitly states that the wormhole is still there. Some haters keep acting like this movie underperformed, but the majority of movie-goers LOVED it, and it was one of the top 10 films of 2014. The actors have all said that they want there to be a sequel, and if there is anyone who wouldn't screw it up, it's Nolan. He has a perfect track record and a franchise would be profitable for everyone involved. The exploration of the formation of the tesseract would be a great plot line, since humans did create it. Would any of them try to go back to before the blight to try and change things, or would they accept Murphy's Law as truth in this and every other situation. If these beings are of 5 dimensions, and the past is a canyon, going into the past to contact Cooper, Murph, Brand or anyone, really, is completely possible. This wouldn't be a franchise that you knew exactly where it was going, so a sequel wouldn't be 'just a sequel'. Of all the things you could consider predictable in films, it's superhero movies, and Nolan completely turned that on its head. There's a fandom for this movie that is rapidly developing, and trust me, WB and Paramount know that. That's where the money comes from.
