Offseason Strategy Fresh fom Reddit

1. Keep the offense intact, if possible.

This was why the team succeeded last season. It is hard to overstate this point. This unit was so good at doing their job, many experts said it was Dallas' best defense, as well.

Ideally, they would bring back everyone. At the very least, I would like to see them re-sign or franchise Dez, bring back Murray in a reasonable deal, and keep Leary (restricted FA). I think they should try to keep Free and/or Parnell, because of how well that line clicked on and off the field, but I would be okay letting both these guys walk if the price is too high.

2. Use Free Agency to improve secondary.

Carr and Claiborne are not the solution here, and I wouldn't count on either of them for next season. Scandrick and Wilcox are talented players that bring a lot of fire to this unit. Moore is good in his role, so I'd be happy to see him back as long as they don't try to expand his responsibilities.

The two biggest areas for improvement, to me, are FS and #1 CB. If the Cowboys are looking to spend money in FA, this is where it has to be. From everything I've read, the draft class is particularly weak in these two areas, so I wouldn't try to do much in that arena. I don't know what the most realistic possibilities are, but guys like Maxwell, Jackson, Culliver, Cromartie, McCourty, Searcy would be on my list of hopeful signings.

3. Strengthen pass rush through the Draft.

As I mentioned above, this draft is very weak for defensive backs. The opposite is true for pass rushers. Nine defensive ends or pass rushing outside linebackers could be taken in the first round. This is where I want the Cowboys to invest. If Dallas can pair a high draft pick with a (hopefully improved) Lawrence, that pass rush could be a real strength of the team, before they finish their rookie deals.

Quick note: Offensive tackle is also a pretty deep position this year, so if Free and Parnell walk, the Cowboys could go to the well one more time for that offensive line.
