Its obvious Hardline isn't the series shooter that a regular BF installment is, its more of a Bad Company style Battlefield, which we all know can be outstanding. So I'm not, and won't, try to hard to compare it to BF4 in more ways than I have to. I do like that they took off a little time from the mainline Battlefield game to release one that is different.
The Good:
Stupid Fun - Modes like Hardline, and TDM in it's current state with 64 players crammed into a tiny map aren't exactly the best skill games out there, but they do make for entertaining fun.
Map Design - Though there are definitely some glaring issues in map design, overall I find them to be very enjoyable and definitely playable. They look great as well.
Single Player - Ok, there is no new ground here outside of it not totally sucking, but that is quite a step for the BF franchise. There were definitely some bland moments, but overall it played out much more smoothly than past games have. With the stealth/run an gun approaches it also has a little bit of replay value, which is unquestionably a first for the franchise in my opinion. Also, you weren't an emotionally dead mute with people constantly screaming "RECKER! RECKER! RE...." in your face, which was nice.
Unlocks - While I can't say I'd want the unlock system to be implemented in a normal BF title, I think it works quite well with Hardline and goes with the theme at the same time.
The Mediocre
- The New Game types - I like the ideas behind gametypes like Blood Money and Heist, but until players figure them out it has been painfully unpredictable. Half of the games I get in have players that have no earthly idea what is going on. I can see them getting better over time though.
The Bad
Lack of Guns - Now, I won't argue that BF4 had a somewhat bloated inventory in terms of weapons, but for the most part DICE did a good job of making each gun have pretty noticeable traits that differed from other guns. I wouldn't mind them cutting the guns in half, but having the choice of 2 different types of guns for each class, with 4-6 choices tops, there is a huge lack of options.
Class Design - While I understand why many of the class changes were made (engineer having spawn beacon now, etc), some of the classes in terms of Weapon Selection + Gadgets are utterly useless in certain gametypes.
Scout Elite - Ok, who the fuck thought this gun was a good idea? Giving every player a sniper that shoots almost as fast as a BF4 DMR, plus the straight pull, flash hider, and 6x scope from the get go was a damn bad decision. Every level of every gametype I've played included tons of sniper spam. When you have a gun as overpowered as this, its easy to understand why.
Overall I still think this should have been a DLC for BF4. If that were the case it would be awesome, but due to the sever lack of depth it has right there is just no way at all I could ever see this game keeping me occupied for even a fraction of the time BF4/BF3/BF2 all did. Sure, it can be a fun game to play here and there, but BF4 is still going to be getting more gameplay, especially since there is still content coming out for it.
