My favorite game of all time turns 14 years old this month. Tribes 2. Fresh fom Reddit

I posted this as a text post because I don't care about karma. I just want to share this game with you folks.

Back in the day this game was a mad house. In 2001 you could log on and join 30v30 games of CTF with just a 56k connection.

So far the sheer playability and skill required is unmatched for me. There have been newer iterations that I just didn't care for as much. The newest is Tribes Ascend: a free to play (pay to win) game available from Hi-Rez studios. The folks who bought the rights to the franchise. There was also Tribes: Vengeance and Tribes: Aerial Combat (Console based).

I have tried them all and always preferred Tribes 2.

The game is still going but barely. This is an online multiplayer game only and so requires players, servers and a master server to function. As of right now there is a small group of people helping to keep the game alive. We have maybe 100 regular players and on a good night, the popular server that everyone plays on might see a 15v15. We had a damn good 10v10 a few nights ago.

It's a really fun game that requires a lot of skill. The game is on its last legs and might not be around in a few years if we don't get more players.

In all likelihood, my beloved game will die very soon, but before that happens check it out for yourselves. The game is now completely free to play is a relatively small download. Less than a gigabyte.

TribesNext.com - this is the website of the guy who fixed the game so we could play it after the original master server went down for good. This is also where you download the game and the patch so it will play. It's easy to do.

T2Forums.com - The most recent loss to the game was when the game was dropped from the primary competition ladder. There aren't a lot of competition games going on but we liked the forums. When the game was removed we lost the forums. So these forums were put up for the community to use. Thus far, these seem to be the most popular forums for T2 players.

TribalWar.com - One of if not the longest lived website for this game. There are forums and news available here.
