What do you think about the state of the British Film Industry? Do you believe that the "British Film Industry" actually exist? Fresh fom Reddit

I recently listened to a BBC Radio 4 podcast in which British producer, director and screenwriter Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman, Layer Cake, Kick Ass) said that he doesn't believe that there is an actually British Film Industry. In the interview he said:

"It's crazy how we subsidize British movies with tax breaks but we don't get any of that money back. We're subsidizing Hollywood, we're service providers. We're not an industry, we're being a glamorized service provider."

It's also stated that while films like Star Wars and the Harry Potter franchise are made in Britain, they are owned and financed by American production companies.

I was wondering what people here thought about this. Do you think there is in fact a British Film Industry? Why? Do you not believe that there is a proper film industry in the United Kingdom. If so, why not and what do you think could be done to help foster and develop one?
