Did you just get your first 3DS-system? Here are some games you should play! Fresh fom Reddit

First of all, hello everyone. Before I begin, let me show this:

"NO ASKING FOR GAME RECOMMENDATIONS unless you're looking for something specific. Use Google, the side bar, search past posts, and if you must use the Noob Question Thread."

Can you still recommend games to others, mods?

If yes, here you guys: My most recommended games for the Nintendo 3DS!

Game: Pokémon Omega Ruby / Pokémon Alpha Saphire

Developer: Game Freak

Genre: RPG

In case you don't know what Pokémon is... Pokémon is a game where you go on a journey and catch these lifeforms called "Pokémon". Trust me, you know at least two of them (Pikachu, does that ring a bell? No? Charizard? Mewtwo?)! With these powerful creatures, you will try to be the best, like no one ever was...! Aka you beat the Pokémon League. Optionally, you can also catch em' all! But trust me... You won't catch em' all. While you are on your journey, you can explore the beautiful Hoenn-region, finding secret goodies and items. If you just want to battle and crush everyone, there are many options to do so! Local-Mode, if you want to crush your friends with your immense power, Online-Mode, if you want to be absolutely rekt and the Battle Maison, if you want to fight the worst CPU-weeaboos you'll ever meet. There is much more to discover, I highly recommend this game!

3DS-Features used:

  • Street-Pass

  • Spot-Pass

  • Online

  • 3DS-Camera

Playtime:

  • 20-30 hours (Story)

  • over 30-40 hours (if you play the complete post-game)

Game: Mario and Luigi Dream Team (Bros.)

Developer: Alpha Dream

Genre: Action-RPG

"What is this? A Mario-RPG? Isn't this completely genric and boring?" ... No?! The Mario and Luigi-series is far away from being generic. Story: I hate to spoil stuff, let me say this: It's crazy. This game is a turnbased RPG, much like Pokémon, but you need to time your moves action-commands correctly to deal the most damage! You can also counter / dodge all moves, so your skill will be rewarded! One last thing: You will fall in love with the music. Not convinced? Check out this song from the game: Click!

3DS-Features used:

  • Motion-Controls

Playtime:

  • 30-40 hours

Game: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Developer: Sora Ltd. / Bandai Namco Games / Nintendo

Genre: Beat'Em'Up

You knew this will be here, right? Why am I even trying to mention how good this game is? What do you do? You punch your enemy out of the screen. The end. Nothing more.

"Why is this so popular? It sounds generic, boring and easy..."

Because you can play as one of over 40 Nintendo All-Stars! Pikachu? Yes. Samus? Of course. R.O.B., the NES-Toy? WE EVEN HAVE HIM. Select one of over 15 stages to fight on, featuring:

  • The Living-Room from Nintendogs

  • A Game Boy that is currently playing Kirby's Dream Land 1

  • A generic floating island with 3 platforms floating over a beatiful mountain-side

  • A generic floating island... in space

  • The Maze from Pac-man

... and many more!

Who wouldn't buy this? It even has stable online and a giant competetive community, /r/smashbros !

3DS-Features used:

  • Street-Pass

  • Spot-Pass

  • Online

  • amiibo (new 3DS only)

  • Playcoins

Playtime:

  • ~20 hours (single-player)

  • infinite fun! (multiplayer)

Game: Animal Crossing New Leaf

Developer: Nintendo EAD 2

Genre: Life-Simulation

A hard to describe game... A life simulation where you have your own house and town to decorate! It's Animal Crossing! Everyone knows the concept. This time around though, you are the mayor of your town, so you can customize everything a bit more. You want a well in your town? There you go, you can now have that. The more time you invest, the more you can do.

3DS-Features used:

  • Street-Pass

  • Spot-Pass

  • Online

  • QR-Codes

Playtime:

  • almost infinite playtime. For me it was between 150-160 hours of playtime!

Game: Kid Icarus Uprising

Developer: Sora Ltd.

Genre: TPS (Third-Person-Shooter) / Rail-Shooter / Action-Adventure

This. Game. Is. Amazing. From the creator of the Super Smash Bros.-series comes a reboot of an old Nintendo-franchise, being Kid Icarus. But now, it's a third-person-shooter! Well, at least kinda. There are 2 types of gameplay in KIU:

  • TPS-style gameplay

  • Star Fox-Style rail-shooter action

While walking / flying through these levels, the best part unfolds: THE HUMOR! Pit and Palutena are constantly joking around with funny puns, random weird jokes and references. Even in the tutorial! But at the same time, they can also be very serious. Especially in the later half of the game. I won't spoil what happens though. If you get bored of single-player there always is online-multiplayer!

3DS-Features used:

  • Street-Pass

  • Spot-Pass (it was discontinued)

  • Online

  • Circle Pad-Pro / new 3DS C-Stick

  • AR-Cards

  • 3DS-Camera

  • Play-Coins

Playtime:

  • 20+ hours (singleplayer)

  • infinite playtime (multiplayer)
